It was perfect weather
for golf as more than 100 audio professionals
participated in the 14th Annual TEC LA Open
Golf Tournament, held on May 11, at the Malibu
Country Club, Presented by the TEC Foundation
for Excellence in Audio the ever-popular event
was sponsored for the second year by Guitar
Center Professional.
The honorary chairman
of this year’s tournament was
21-time Grammy® winning engineer and producer,
Al Scmitt. Sponsors included AlterMedia/studioexpresso,
Design FX, KMD Productions, Lurssen Mastering,
Natural Soundfields Limited, Record Plant, Sennheiser,
Sound Design Corporation., Shure, Sugar Mama’s,
The Pass Studios, The Recording Academy's P&E
Wing and Yamaha Commercial Audio.
The winning team was Natural
Soundfields Limited (Eric Tomooka, Ken Dahlinger,
Mike Cruz and Richard Gordon), with a score of
57; second was Ed Cherney Team (Cherney, Scott
Thurston, Frank Pirruccello and Jerry Kanter),
with a score of 61; and coming in third was The
Village (Charlie Bidwell, Ken Cross, Rudy Tomjunovich
and Kyle Smith).
Contest winners included
Cyle Wehbu (Longest Drive), Alex Brown (Closest
to the Pin), and Rudy Tomjonovich (Longest Putt).
The putting contest was won by Jason Toney. The
day concluded with a dinner and awards presentation,
along with a raffle and silent auction. Audio
equipment was donated by AlterMedia, American
Music and Sound, Apogee Electronics, Audio-Technica,
AVID, BLUE, Brauner, Gibson, Mojave Audio, Rode,
Shure, Sterling Audio, Universal Audio and Yamaha
Commercial Audio, among others.The event was
organized by KMD Productions.
Proceeds of the
L.A. Open go to programs of the TEC Foundation,
including the Technical Excellence & Creativity
(TEC) Awards, the world’s foremost program
recognizing the achievements of audio manufacturers
and production professionals.
